Thomas Hobbes
was a British Philosopher and renowned as one of the founders of political philosophy. As an eye-witness of the devastating civil war in England, Hobbes tried to lay the philosophical fundaments for a political system equipped to impose and maintain peace. The absolute state he creates is metaphorically represented by the so called Leviathan, a monster taken from the old testament (which is also the title of his central work).
