Augustine

 

was a progressive thinker of Christian theology and a philosopher. During his youth he was part of the religious school of Manichaeism, perceiving the human body and the world as something evil in which the human soul is locked in, seeking liberation. Later he turned to neo-Platonism, became bishop of Hippo Regius in north Africa and a mayor influencer of Western Christianity.
